About Maria Civitello Law

Maria Civitello, Founding Attorney

Founding Attorney Maria Civitello launched Maria Civitello Law in 2024 with a simple mission: to provide thoughtful, effective, and affordable legal counsel to individuals and small businesses throughout the Barrington area.

Prior to starting her firm, Maria practiced as an Associate Attorney at a general civil litigation firm, where she concentrated on contract law, employment law, trademark law, and real estate/housing law. She has been a member of the Illinois Bar since November 2023.

Maria earned her Juris Doctor in May 2023 from the University of Illinois College of Law. During her time at the College of Law, Maria served as the Articles Editor for the Elder Law Journal; her original Note, focusing on the public policy arguments in favor of a uniform definition of the multigenerational family, was published in the Elder Law Journal’s Fall 2023 issue. Her academic achievements include a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the study of Economics of Intellectual Property; the College of Law’s Public Interest Award, recognizing a student with an outstanding commitment to public interest law; and the College of Law’s Dean’s Scholarship, awarded to incoming law students who demonstrate “exceptional academic and personal accomplishments.”

Before starting her law degree, Maria earned her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology and French, magna cum laude, from Lake Forest College in 2020. During her time at Lake Forest College, Maria earned honors such as the College Linguistics Award, the All-College Writing Contest, and the Lake Forest College Presidential Scholarship. Her longstanding interest in the humanities and social sciences informs her approach to the law, lending her an empathetic style and a nuanced perspective on contemporary legal issues.

Maria has full professional proficiency in the French language. In her personal time, Maria enjoys reading, photography, and music.
